"Enlighten us?" very well. i can’t handle anything that has to do with brutal sadism or humiliation - i survived a horrifically abusive childhood and seeing those things triggers me very strongly. it literally sends me into an anxiety attack so i simply have to unfollow.
Certain sounds and smells do it for me too, not matter what you try or how aware you are of those triggers, they still set you off … at times, all the tips you’ve tried over the years, the headway you have made, just fade and you’re back to flight or fight mode … it never leaves us, we just somehow muddle through.
